EUREKA! Land HO!

Finally, Landmass has been cracked!

There are many ways to look at this, and these images are the way I see it. For some time I have been trying to make any headway in the MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) that Purgatorio is being developed to be. On top of this, I’m struggling to make it a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) that takes place in some parts on Saba Island, an actual island in the Caribbean Sea. At present I am developing the game using Unreal Engine 5. Before it’s release I was using Unreal Engine 4 and the maximum size of a map that you can create is 21 km. Saba Island is approximately 21 km wide. If you try to extend this weird things happen on the map.

With this said, I waited until the release of Unreal Engine 5 and the maturation of one of their tools, that being the LANDMASS tool. Now, you can create maps of unbelievable size. My problem initially finding a heightmap that could be used to block out the island. It took awhile to find one but I did. Then it took awhile to upload it into Unreal Engine, but I did. At first it resolved to only 8 km wide. It took time, almost a year because of other obligations but with Unreal Engine 5 I found the magic numbers that caused this massive map to block itself out of the ocean. It is so massive that I love showing the mountain slopes, the clouds on their shoulders, the ocean out in the distance.

Right now, there is no landscape matter, grass, rocks, etc. It is simply a pattern that can be molded and worked on, and where I intend to start is this peninsula called Flat Point where the only airport is on the island. This is the game start, this is the cinematic start of the game, and so this should also be the start of the official launch of the game. So here is the official website for keeping up with the progress of Purgatorio and how I am putting it together. Just to make a point as to the size of the island in-game, I placed a life sized person Flat Point just for scale. Can you see him?

Here he is, staring southwards over Old Booby Hill, both Cove and Spring Bays just off the the edge of the brown earth. This Hill rises 230 feet above sea level. It’s beautiful and soon I will build it out completely. With all this said, considered the work started.
